Does Checking "White" Undermine Programs That Help Blacks?
I've noticed that there are many, many, MANY questions on YA, concerning the identity of black/white biracials, and particularly about them identifying as "white". Most of those questions ume a position of a pro-white identity. The 2010 Census (which has been called the most important census in history) is coming up in one year. If large numbers of b/w biracials in the United States--and also blacks who consider themselves to be "mixed race"--were to check either "all that apply" or "white" on the 2010 Census, what would the long-term consequences to blacks and to biracials be? And if a reduction in black numbers were to continue over several decades, which governmental programs that ist minorities, might be detrimentally affected by such a dramatic demographical change?
