What do you think this poem means?

The narrator is stuck in someone's dream. In this dream a girl is showing the narrator the rules because it is not their dream, doing the wrong thing might lead to death or torment. Everyone in dreams seem sorta robotic because you are trapped in someone else's imagination. And this person who is doing the dreaming has a bad history with the narrator and is not letting them free. If your not the scientist then you are the machines..... i could think way deeper into this. but sometimes when you think to deep about something you get off track to finding the true meaning so yea idk lol
